Spirited editor. Celebrated investigative journalist. Political hack. Dissident writer. Or, as dr Sandra Swart describes Eugène Marais as newspaper columnist: “An Irritating Pebble in Kruger’s Shoe”.
At the age of 19 Eugène Marais became the editor of Land & Volk. The following year he became co-owner. By 1892 Marais and his partner Jimmy Roos doubled the newspaper’s readership. In that same year Roos resigned, and Marais managed Land & Volk. Marais cut ties with the newspaper in 1905.
Do any copies of Land & Volk perhaps remain today? If so the Foundation would appreciate it immensely to gain access to these copies.

Clearly an ‘Advertisement- and Newspaper’ and not vice versa
